Aviva Bellman

Aviva is a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) student at Smith College working with The Chai Tikvah Foundation on an initiative called the Jewish Mental Health Anti-Stigma Project. Her interest in mental health stigma – which she views as a social justice issue – and Jewish learning stems from her prior work in the area of Jewish social justice leadership training and education. Prior to beginning her studies in clinical social work, Aviva taught a Judiasm 101 course to adults seeking conversion at Or Shalom Congregation in London, Ontario. She served as director of both Teva Quebec’s Jewish Eco-Leadership Training (JELT) in Montreal and Uri L’tzedek Summer Fellowship in Los Angeles. Aviva is an alumnus of AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corp, American Jewish World Service (AJWS) Volunteer Summer, Stern College for Women, and Midreshet Lindenbaum. In addition to Jewish learning and the field of social work, Aviva enjoys various food fermentation projects and leading davening services.
