Barry Pakes

Barry Pakes is a Public Health specialist physician, who also works in primary care and emergency medicine. He is a Royal College Fellow in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. His Doctor of Medicine was earned at the University of Toronto, his Microbiology/Immunology degree at McGill, his Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health and his Diploma in Tropical Medicine from Cayetano Heredia and the Gorgas Institute in Lima, Peru. Dr. Pakes also has a PhD in Public Health Ethics from the University of Toronto, Joint Centre for Bioethics. He is a CHAT graduate who also studied at Yeshivat Hamivtar in Efrat with Rabbis Brovender, Riskin, and Blau. He has experience working globally – including Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, India and Israel, in Northern communities, in local public health. He also worked with the WHO Ethics Group in Geneva where developed frameworks for the global consultation on ethical issues in global pandemic influenza planning. He is currently the Program Director of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, the Program Director for the Global Health Education Initiative and is Global Health Lead for Post Graduate Medical Education at the University of Toronto. His main areas of interest are in Global Health Ethics, Post-Graduate Global Health Education, Vaccinology and Tobacco Control.
