Devon Spier

Devon Spier is a Program Coordinator, rabble-rouser and spiritual entrepreneur living in Kitchener, Ontario. By day, she organizes essential services for people on a limited income and by night, she programs out of her apartment - the "Shul Without Walls" - where she offers rituals for the unaffiliated to encounter Judaism.
Devon is also author of “Way of a Jewish Feminist” from the volume “Ways of the Spirit: Voices of Women” and a recipient of the YMCA Strong Role Model Award for her contributions as a Canadian peacemaker. She is most passionate about honouring differences to create a shared vision of Canadian Jewish life.
In her spare time, Devon mentors Hillel students, Jewish professionals and preteens and believes that leading from ourselves is the strongest possible way to lead others back to Judaism. It is in this role that Devon nurtures others and especially thrives; offering service in places as diverse as parks and frozen yogurt parlours, she makes Judaism accessible and hospitable for all who engage with it.
Currently, Devon is a board member of Temple Shalom Reform Jewish Temple, founder of the Jewish Refugee Action Committee and a co-organizer of RECHIMU chesed project with a local Chabad House. In her community, Devon is known her warm and integrative approach to Jewish education and community organizing. A Jewish teacher in a suburban shtetl, she works with all Jews to lead people from the fringes of Judaism back to their tradition.
