Joel Niederhoffer

Joel Niederhoffer (34) is a Jew with roots in Jamaica and Canada. He grew up in the close knitted Jewish community of Victoria, British Columbia. He was active in Jewish community being involved in the Congregation Emmanuel and local U.S.Y. chapter. He attended Public school as well as a supplementary afternoon Hebrew school provide by the synagogue. In the mid-90's the family helped to co-found a small orthodox shul that helped to diversify the Island's Jewish community. Upon arriving to Toronto in 1999 the family attached themselves to the modern orthodox community in North York. During his studies at York University, hB.A. in History and Geography minor, he was an active member of Hillel and broader Jewish campus life, where he became involved in Israel Advocacy. In 2013 he along with Arie Ben-Dor and like-minded individuals helped to establish Kensington Torah Circle, a grassroots Torah- based downtown organization. Joel continues to be engaged in the many elements of the Jewish community whether at Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations in North York or enjoying the Ashkenaz Festival by the waterfront.
