Dr. Nora Gold is a writer, activist, and the creator and editor of the prestigious online literary journal, Jewish Fiction .net. Gold’s novel Fields of Exile won the 2015 Canadian Jewish Literary Award, and was also the recipient of high praise, including from Cynthia Ozick, Phyllis Chesler, Irwin Cotler, Steve Stern, Naim Kattan, and Alice Shalvi. Ozick called Fields of Exile “a brave and luminous book” that she read “with nonstop enthralled admiration.”

Gold’s first book, Marrow and Other Stories, won a Canadian Jewish Book Award, and Alice Munro, after reading the title story, wrote to Gold saying “Bravo!”

Gold’s third book, The Dead Man, will be published this spring.

Dr. Gold, at one time a tenured professor, is now the Writer-in-Residence and an Associate Scholar at the Centre for Women's Studies in Education, at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. In her scholarly capacity, she has numerous academic publications to her credit, and has conducted a variety of different research projects, including a national study of Canadian Jewish women and their experiences of sexism and antisemitism, and a follow-up study with Jewish girls in Toronto that explored these same issues.

In addition, Gold coordinates the Wonderful Women Writers Series at the Centre for Women’s Studies in Education at OISE/University of Toronto, and serves on three boards and advisory councils: the Hadassah Brandeis Institute in Boston, and in Israel the Dafna Fund and Heart to Heart. Gold holds both Canadian and Israeli citizenship, and is a co-founder of three Canadian Zionist organizations.
